Favorite gift at Christmas. When my daughter opened it she wanted to go start to play some of the songs right away. Every one in the family agreed that it was a great present not just for her, but for the whole family, since we enjoy listening to her play.I have been wanting to get my hands on this music for a while now, and this is the best book available. Although I would have liked the book to be more complete (there are several notable omissions from the full score), what the book does include is extraordinary. It is essentially all of the previous three volumes of the LOTR solo piano books stuffed in to one epic book plus the added arrangements of "Concerning Hobbits" and "The Black Rider". The arrangement for "Aniron (Theme for Aragorn and Arwen)" by Enya is not included.Songs Included Are:from The Fellowship of the Ring:THE PROPHECYCONCERNING HOBBITSTHE BLACK RIDERMANY MEETINGSIN DREAMSMAY IT BEfrom The Two Towers:ROHANEVENSTARFORTH EORLINGASISENGARD UNLEASHEDGOLLUM'S SONGfrom The Return of the King:MINAS TIRITHTHE STEWARD OF GONDOR (Including "THE EDGE OF NIGHT")TWILIGHT AND SHADOWTHE END OF ALL THINGSTHE RETURN OF THE KINGINTO THE WESTThe arrangements are good and true to the originals and are intended for intermediate to advanced pianists. Of the songs included, they are complete and unabridged-- direct copies of the originals. Although it does not specify in the product description, a little less than half of the songs have chords notated above the melody line. The book itself is very nice and it stuffed with brilliant full color photos from all three films. I would have liked the book to include more songs from the films, but until a more complete edition is released (if ever), this book does satisfy. I highly recommend this book to fellow pianists who are fans of the LOTR Trilogy Music. The music itself seems to be perfectly fine, but the Quenya and Sindarin song lyrics are awful. I've only looked at a few of them so far and have already found several mistakes. For example "hiasta" in the prophecy which I'm certain should be "hlasta".And in Elendil's Oath (Aragorn's Coronation) from the song The Return of the King, the syllables of Eärello are divided incorrectly and thus placed with the wrong notes. It reads Eär - el - lo with el taking up two notes, when really Eär should be two syllables which would make it fit the number of notes perfectly. And then in Lament for Gandalf the last bit reads "nair - cl ma. I may not know every Quenya word but I do know that "naircl" can certainly not be one. There are very few combinations of consonants allowed in Quenya phonology and cl is not one of them. Three consonants are never allowed to be together and more than one consonant certainly never appears at the end of a word. I can only think that it should have been "nair calma" or something, though "nair" seems like an unlikely Quenya word. All of this might be understandable if this was just something unofficial that had been cobbled together, but isn't this supposed to be the official sheet music book for the movies? I would have expected a higher degree of professionalism from the people who edited it. Clearly no one involved in making this book knew a thing about Elvish. You would think that they could have found someone who knew something about Elvish to look over it before publishing it. And they could have avoided many of the mistakes themselves if they'd just taken a few moments and read Appendix D in the back of the Return of the King book. Maybe it's not too big a deal because it doesn't really effect people who just want to play the music that much, but what if someone wants to sing the songs using this book as a guide? They'd be completely misled. The book is advertised as a piano solo book. There are approximately 19 songs in the book but only 3 or 4 are what could be termed piano solo arrangements. The balance is simply intermediate piano accompaniment versions - three lines with the top line being for the vocal singer and the remaining treble and bass lines as the vocal's accompaniment. This was truly a big disappointment as I had been looking forward to playing some unique piano solo arrangements to the wonderful music from The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I thought it was very misleading to advertise this as a piano solo book when in reality it wasn't.I was excited to get this book in. I was mostly looking forward to "Concerning Hobbits" and "Into the West." "Concerning Hobbits" is great, but I was really disappointed in "Into the West." It's just the piano accompaniment with the melody/solo line above it. I would have liked a more "piano solo." You can hardly tell what it is just playing the piano part from this book. I love that song, so I'm going to keep looking for a true 'piano solo' arrangement. And I wish "Grey Havens" was in this book, but it's not. But if you like most of the music from the trilogy, absolutely get this book. It's a great value, and cheaper on Amazon than on other sheet music sites, though I think delivery time might have been longer. Not a solo piano book. This is a piano vocal book. There’s a big difference and I hope it can be addressed by the seller. Still good music though. :-)It has great music. It i not too difficult and captures the moments quite well. But this is NOT IN ANY WAY PIANO SOLO. Most of the songs are for piano and voice/choir. Usually the piano accompniment includes the parts, but not always. This is the only reason it does not deserve the 5 stars that it should have.I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my son. He just sat down to play and the book is missing pages 13 through 28. It is past the return window so I cannot request a replacement. I would give 5 stars if it weren't missing 3 songs.BUT IT SHALL NOT BE THIS DAY!What a book, I was on a Lord of the Rings rollercoaster, oooh, the mystery of the ring, then BAM! I'm in the Shire! Seeing as this was an orchestral score, they've transcribed it really well. It's missing some parts which were probably impossible to transcribe, like the percussion heavy Isengard music, but without being ridiculously hard, it really captures the mood of the music from the films. I'd say it's about Grade 4-6ish equivalent on the whole.Personally I don't think this is worth the money. The main reason I gave the book a low rating is because after the first 30-60 min of playing the binding on the book started to break. On day 1 the you can see the binding starting to break! I'd give it a week or two before the binding has broken completely. There is very little pedal guidelines - it just says "with pedal" for most pieces (which I guess is acceptable), almost no fingering, the tempo notations can say moderately for one piece when a crotchet is 105-110 bpm, and moderately for another where they are 65-70 bpm. But to be honest, that'd only take it down to 4 stars, and I'd be happy with the book even with all those problems, since they are really quite minor, it's the binding that really made me give this book a bad review, I don't want to pay for a book which falls apart after a year of playing, never mind a few weeks! For my music studioOf the 19 pieces in the book, only four are piano solos. The remainder all include choral or vocal parts which are not adequately covered by the piano accompaniment. This should be reclassified as piano/vocal, as in fact it is shown on the front cover in the picture.
