Drive Links Drive Links: The drive links are the actual number of links on the chainsaw chain. You can actually count the links to get the exact number of links on your chain! Gauge Gage: The gauge of a chain refers to the thickness of its drive links. The drive link is on the underside of the chain. It's job is to secure the chain into the bar. Without it, your chain could fly off the saw. Pitch Pitch: The pitch of a chain refers to the distance between its drive links. The pitch can be measured by taking the distance between any three of the teeth and dividing that number by two.

I've been using pro-style Stihl & Husqvarna chainsaws with Oregon chisel tooth chains since 1972 -- good combinations for "production" firewood. Recently I bought my first electric chainsaw (Makita XCU04) which came w/ a beginner-friendly anti-kickback chain -- safe but very slow cutting. 8TEN's chisel is a perfect replacement for the OEM safety chain. It's aggressive, comparatively affordable, and holds its edge as well as any Oregon chain I've used. I highly recommend this chain -- IF (pay attention!) you are an EXPERIENCED sawyer and wear SAFETY equipment (chaps, gloves, foot and face protection, &c).
