Sometimes I’ll pop a chicken breast in this on the keep warm setting and it acts as a slow cooker. It brings it up to a safe temp, it’s not uncontrolled heat. I’m a traveler in healthcare so I use this on the go. Sad to see the mentions of the locking mechanism breaking on it. I can def see it happening. The metal pot inside the machine is very high quality and hefty. Overall I think I overpaid, but I do like the unit.Quick and dirty. Took a risk on this as there was maybe only 1 review on this item when I ordered? Personally like Japanese rice cookers for the rice cooking quality but can't stomach the price. Also didn't like how the rice cookers were getting unnecessarily fancier (which I had no need for) and the cook times were getting way too long. Got this because it offered a quick cook option. Result-- cooks rice great, and quick cook option is legit. Also, format is pretty user friendly. Only "con" is there's no holder for the rice ladle.Yogurt, rice both fluffy and void of vessel flavor. Ordinary cake is moist and Asian style, so this isn't a birthday cake machine, this is a small dessert/coffee cake. The machine is quiet, and remember that different quantities cook for different durations. and it's a good idea to cook well ahead of time, since the machine has a warming mode. The vessel can be washed, but an element that snaps in and out needs a wipe down. So, maintenance is almost care free.I purchased to make oatmeal and it works fantastic. Sure beats cooking on stove and the instant oatmeal is just too bland done 3 mins in a microwave. Put oatmeal in this, 30 minutes later fantastic. Can start at anytime and once cooks goes to keep warm mode. Very quiet. Can increase or decrease water to how thick you want it to come out. Cleanup was easy.....Been using this for the past 5 years. Nothing technically wrong with this cooker, unlike some other reviews here. However, this cooker cooks terrible tasting rice compared to even many cheaper ones. The cooked rice vastly tends to be dry with unintended browning on the bottom. A cheap Tiger or Zojirushi can easily do better.Useful!!! Just the cooking time for white rice is too long, actually only need half of the cooking time the white rice can be done with a juicy chewy rice. Love the keep warm choice and easy to carry.I've had this rice cooker for a couple of years and the entire time I have owned it, the latch caused problems. The little handle would pop out and the compression spring would fall out. I would put it back together each time and then it would be OK. I finally lost the spring down the garbage disposal and tried contacting customer support to get a new spring and they were completely unhelpful - Panasonic's customer support couldn't provide me with a service manual or a part number. They told me to try going to Home Depot. Panasonic usually makes good products, unfortunately this one is a turd.Great product. Well made and is working well. I have had Panasonic products given to me or purchased by me for many years. This one is no exception! This is the perfect size rice cooker for family of 4. My last Costco Tiger 10cup cooker's non-stick liner started to chip after 10 years of usage and was always a pain to use due to large size so needed a smaller one.Pros:-super compact-makes perfect rice just like my old Tiger-non-stick aluminum liner is heavy duty, twice as thick as my old Tiger one which deformed when I dropped on floor.-great value, much lower cost than the Zoji'sCons:-no scoop storage-no memory to stay on quick cook for next time, must cycle to it each time.-no steam function like TigerAfter 3 weeks the digital display became weird. The menu light is always on "cake". When I pick "white rice", the blue light will be on both the white rice and cake option. It still cooks well but the display is not reliable. Considering a return while it is within the time frame. Otherwise I like the compact square design and easy to use features. This unit came from the Mfr. with a defective display. The blue LCD unit is one cheap looking piece of junk, several other reviews here talk about problems with the display.I used it to cook rice once and it did a decent job. However, the unit is clearly not made for long-term use with its extensive use of plastics. The heat from the cooking tends to fog up the display. The blue line to indicate your cooking menu never actually leaves 'White Rice'. So you could be cooking oatmeal but the White Rice indicator and the Oatmeal indicator would both be on, causing confusion.Overall, just a cheaply made rice cooker. It became very clear to me that the latch and the display unit would not survive long. These are made cheap to throw away after a few uses.I have returned it, I bought it based on the Panasonic name. However, now I know. I will spend a bit more to get a better made one, if I can find it. All the mfrs. including the Japanese mfrs have succumbed to the lowest common manufacturing denominator.Stay away from this one.bought on nov, 2021; writing as of aug 2022downgraded from a 12 cup tiger to this since i've moved into a smaller space.been cooking regular white rice everyday since purchase, still going as strong as if were new.just don't forget to turn it off (goes into keep warm after cooking) if you don't want to dry your rice.Excellent rice cooker! Cooks rice perfectly. If looking for a more fluffy rice use about 1.75 cups of water per 1 cup rice. This is just in my own experience with Rooster brand rice. It would be nice to have a count down cooking timer instead of the circuitous blue lcds. Easy to clean.
