When I saw an edition proclaiming itself as edited by the acclaimed harpsichordist Fernando Valenti, I purchased it hoping to benefit from his experience as a performer of these works. Sadly, there is hardly any editing to be found. Conspicuously absent is any fingering whatsoever. Scarlatti wrote over 500 of these works, which have long been in the public domain, and copies of scores are available free of charge online. So buying a measly 30 of them for no apparent benefit -- they are largely UNEDITED, despite the misleading title -- was a terrible waste of money. I note also a dedication to Alicia de Larrocha on the title page of the first work in the collection. Since she was not born until centuries after the composer's death, this must be a dedication by the "editor," Valenti. But why would an editor dedicate a volume of work to an accomplished pianist, especially an edition into which said "editor" did practically no work at all. Shame on Valenti for this useless product, shame on Schirmer for publishing it, and shame on Hal Leonard for distributing it. CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!
